Here at the Enchanted Gift Shop we take our environmental responsibility seriously, and where-ever possible we try to reduce, reuse and recycle everything that goes into running the business.
We don't stop there though, we continue this policy through into our personal lives, and at home we all practice the reduce, reuse and recycle theme.
We also try to use companies that also stick to this theme, whether they be suppliers of the products we sell, suppliers of the packaging we use, carriers we use to send these products with or companies that supply us with the tools to run the business.
Please continue reading for a bit more in-depth information on what the Enchanted Gift Shop does for the environment...
- To begin with we make sure that all the appliances we use to run the business have the highest energy efficiency possible and that they are turned off when-ever not in use for long periods. For example; our PC's, laptops and printers go into standby mode if not in use for more than 30 minutes, and are turned off completely if not in use for 1 hour or more.
- Anything electronic that takes batteries gets re-chargable ones.
- The light bulbs that illuminate our spaces are low energy bulbs, and the lights are turned off if we are not using the space for longer than 1 hour.
- We try to ensure all our communication is done via the internet, so we avoid using paper for invoices, delivery notes etc.
- Where we do have to use paper, we ensure it is recycled paper and recycled envelopes too.
- When we receive deliveries of products from our suppliers, we reuse all the packaging we receive, from the boxes to the packaging material -- we also try to minimise the amount of packaging we use to send out any products, whilst still ensuring you receive them in perfect condition.
- If we need to travel somewhere to send parcels, we ensure we only do it 3 times a week -- whilst doing this we try to ensure we run our own personal errands along the journey (food shopping etc) -- to reduce the car miles not just from a business point, but from a personal point too!
- Our toilets are fitted with a dual flush mechanism which enables us to flush with less water when-ever possible.
- We all take showers rather than baths as this saves water as-well as electricity from heating up the water!
- Where-ever possible we buy things in bulk as this saves packaging, and money of course!
On-top of the above mentioned items, we are currently researching into offsetting our residual Carbon Footprint that is created by the delivery of all our orders using the services of a company called CO2 Balance.
This means that we could invest in projects around the world that save the emission of, or absorb, an equivalent amount of CO2 that is emitted from our deliveries --- through this process we can try to balance out the unavoidable emissions that our company produces and work towards becoming CarbonZero.
Whilst we are aware that all these things will only account for a little bit of environmental care, we are constantly trying to come up with new ideas of reducing our footprint on the earth, and because of this, we welcome any comments or suggestions you might have that could help us.
