The Book of Shadows is a journal recording the experience, experiments, spells, and knowledge you acquire.
In most cases it is a personal journal, but in some family traditions the book of shadows is handed down to each generation, who then continues and adds their own spells and experiences etc to it.
The important point is that it is recorded experiences, not copied out sections of other publications, although where relevant you can include knowledge from elsewhere, including books/internet etc, but avoid the temptation to build just a scrap book of others ideas, in which you have no experience or involvement.
Most of all though, remember that there is no right or wrong way to use them!
